Assistant Track Design Engineer - 100% (m/f)
The ideal candidate will support the technical development and production of Track (Permanent Way) designs, contributing to alignment design, detailed engineering, and multidisciplinary coordination under the guidance of senior engineers. The role requires a proactive and detail-oriented approach to deliver high-quality, accurate design outputs while supporting programme compliance and interface management. The candidate will develop core competencies in track engineering within a structured mentorship environment, contributing to the successful delivery of complex railway infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development of railway track designs in accordance with design alignment, covering both ballasted and ballastless track systems.
- Assist in the preparation of detailed design calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications in compliance with project requirements.
- Work under the guidance of the Senior Engineer / Track Design Lead in design development, technical reviews, and coordination activities.
- Contribute to horizontal and vertical alignment design, including speed calculations and optimization based on project constraints.
- Assist in the detailing and design of ballastless track systems such as LVT, plinth beam, and slab track solutions.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, geotechnical, and systems) to ensure interface alignment and design consistency.
- Support design reviews, model verification, and clash detection processes.
- Ensure all deliverables comply with applicable international standards (EN, UIC, AREMA, and project-specific requirements).
- Participate in internal design reviews and incorporate feedback from senior engineers and stakeholders.
- Assist in material take-offs (MTO), BOQ preparation, and design documentation management for Track engineering.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's degree is an advantage).
- 3–5 years of experience in railway track design projects.
- Fundamental understanding of railway track systems, including geometry, components, and construction methodologies.
- Familiarity with Track–Structure Interaction (TSI) / Rail–Structure Interaction (RSI) principles.
- Working knowledge of track alignment design (horizontal and vertical geometry).
- Exposure to ballastless track systems and sleeper design is preferred.
- Familiarity with international railway standards such as EN, UIC, and AREMA is mandatory.
- Proficiency in FEA analysis software (e.g., MIDAS, LUSAS, SOFiSTiK) is mandatory.
- Proficiency in CAD and alignment design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) is desirable.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and coordination skills in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- High attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy in deliverables.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented project environment.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop under technical mentorship.
Additional Advantage:
- Experience in High-Speed Rail (HSR), conventional/mainline rail, or metro projects.
- Hands-on exposure to proven ballastless track systems (LVT, Rheda, PORR, etc.).
- Familiarity with BIM workflows and 3D modelling environments.
- Previous experience on GCC railway projects.
- Understanding of design coordination and interface management across disciplines.
